REDUCING carbon emissions and tackling climate change will take centre stage next month at a major North-East event.
The region is staging its first Low Carbon Innovation Exchange event as part of a nationwide programme that brings together executives, leading businesses, local authorities and regional organisations to share best practice on reducing the carbon footprint.
Sponsored by regional development agency One NorthEast, the event includes seminars, workshops and presentations on various topics, such as resource efficiency, renewable energy and low carbon technologies.
The event is being held at the Marriott Hotel, Gosforth Park, Newcastle, on Thursday, April 3.
Alex Fowler, One NorthEast's energy analysis and policy specialist advisor, said: "We want to be one of the most environmentally- friendly regions in the country and, to do that, we need to educate on the benefits being more energy efficient can bring.
"This seminar will provide the perfect opportunity to find out how they can do their bit while also saving themselves cash.
"Put simply, if companies think more about their carbon footprint, they can reduce their bills, which will free up additional funds for expansion. That's good news for the region's economy."
The Low Carbon Innovation Network has 5,000 members across the UK, and has held seminars in London, Bristol and Harrogate.
The North-East has 500 members, and it is hoped that figure will double.
