THE boss of a music store has expressed sadness after confirming the closure of its Darlington site.

JG Windows, which was established in 1908 and also has outlets in Newcastle and at the MetroCentre, announced this week it will be closing its doors on Blackwellgate.

Managing Director Rupert Bradbury said he was 'very sorry' that the decision had to be made, with the store shutting in the next two to three weeks.

The announcement comes after another music store, Bandland in Stockton, revealed it too was closing.

Mr Bradbury told The Northern Echo: "The store has served us well for the last seven years, but everyone is aware of how challenging high-street retail currently is across the whole sector, with low consumer confidence and people’s shopping habits changing.

"I also think that this situation is only going to get more challenging in the next 12 months – particularly - and unfortunately - on the high streets in towns across our region.

"J.G.Windows has been in business for 110 years and with that comes very significant responsibility, so we feel that the best way forward for our company is to focus all our efforts and resources on our famous Central Arcade store in Newcastle, as well as our large branch in the MetroCentre.

"We’re very mindful that this leaves Darlington without a music shop - and I’m sorry to hear that Bandland in Stockton is also closing - and we’d hope that people feel a trip to our Newcastle or Metrocentre stores are worthwhile - perhaps for more considered purchases - but appreciate that for smaller, everyday items this isn’t practicable."

Mr Bradbury added: “Personally, I’d like very much like to thank all of our customers in Darlington and the local area, for their custom over the past seven years.

"It is much appreciated, and I really do hope that in some way we can continue to serve them in the future.”

The Darlington store is having a closing down sale, promising 'huge savings'. More details on JG Windows can be found at
