A FAMILY-RUN engineer expects to strengthen its order book after carrying out a major renewable energy deal.

Francis Brown Limited made and installed a huge carousel for the storage of spare cabling on UK offshore wind farm projects.

The company, which operates from a site in Stockton, was commissioned to fulfil the contract at a base in Sunderland by Ecosse Subsea Systems, on behalf of an international infrastructure group.

Bosses say the project added to the business’ already extensive portfolio of delivering engineering services and solutions to schemes worth more than £10m in the offshore renewable, chemical, oil and gas, rail, nuclear, power and construction markets.

Mark Roddy, managing director, said: “We are thrilled to be part of this project and believe it is our experience, quality, ability to hit a very tight schedule and excellent safety record that landed us this order.

“We pride ourselves in providing first-class, robust and sustainable solutions to projects across the globe and firmly believe it is our emphasis on delivering exceptional design – coupled with our focus on safe manufacturing and installation - that makes us the supplier of choice across our industries.

“These key values are underpinned by our ability to constantly deliver on time and on specification.

“Plus, with a growing demand for storage carousels across the renewable sector, we firmly believe delivery of this project can only lead to further opportunities for us in this growing market.”

Earlier this year, bosses said they were aiming to take advantage of the “green shoots of recovery” in the oil and gas sector after breaking through the 100-worker barrier and picking up a string of contracts.

They said the firm, founded in 1903 as a wire trap and soil sieve shop, was primed for even further growth, with turnover tipped to increase by a third.

Intrinsic to its recent growth has been work on the Greater Gabbard offshore wind farm, based off the Suffolk coast, and multiple fabrications for the Maersk Culzean offshore gas condensate field, in the central North Sea.

Jamie Brown, chief executive, said the company was in a strong position.

He added: “This year is demonstrating the many opportunities that lie ahead after what, for many, has been a challenging time in the oil and gas industry.

“Now that the green shoots of recovery are emerging in the oil and gas market, we are confident that our business will continue to build on this success.”
