AN engineering consultancy aims to continue expanding after moving to larger offices.

M5tec has switched to Newton Aycliffe, in County Durham.

The business was founded in 2014 and is known for providing technical services worldwide across industries including marine mining, subsea and offshore, nuclear, and oil and gas.

Having more than tripled in size in three years, bosses say moving to Aycliffe’s Parsons Court, from its original base at the Old Brewery Business Centre in Castle Eden, also in County Durham, will provide ample space for its ten-strong team and room to keep on growing.

Carl Jones, M5tec operations director, said: “Moving to larger premises allows us to scale-up our operation, in terms of people and the services we offer our clients.

“When we first started the business, we wanted to provide the same level of service as established firms, but with a much leaner business model and our rate of growth shows this is working.

“In addition to growing our headcount, we are delighted to have been accredited against a number of international standards and cemented our reputation in the nuclear decommissioning market.

“We are now exploring how our expertise can benefit clients in the marine mining sector.”

The company is a signatory of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s (NDA) Supply Chain Charter and a participating member of the NDA mentor scheme.

It was also recently awarded a contract from existing client Terex MHPS (UK) Limited for the design and substantiation of a material handling crane for use in the nuclear decommissioning environment.

Paul Livingstone, business development manager at NOF Energy, which is based on the outskirts of Durham City and operates as an offshore energy support organisation, praised M5tec’s progress.

He added: “Its growth shows the health of engineering in the North and how businesses based here can cater to the needs of clients throughout the UK and globally.

“The company’s success in multiple energy-related markets is an example of how firms in the supply chain can take engineering principles and expertise, and provide them across a diverse range of sectors.”
