A PUBLIC exhibition has been held for a major new factory development, which could create more than 1,300 jobs.

Property developer Town End Farm Partnership (TEFP) held the exhibition for Wear Point 55 at the Washington Business Centre last week.

The development near Nissan’s Sunderland base will see the build of two new factories, which will supply parts to the Japanese manufacturer.

Wear Point 55 is a 22-hectare site, which could deliver more than 1 million sq ft of manufacturing space and almost 100,000sq ft of commercial space.

The proposed development could provide around 1,340 jobs, more than a third of which would be in Sunderland.

Bosses from TEDP said the feedback at the exhibition had been “very positive” and those attending said the development will be “good for the region and for local employment opportunities.”

Peter Razaq, director of TEFP, said: “While we are still processing the results of the consultation exercise, we are pleased with the overall positive responses received from attendees and online respondents.

“We believe that there is now much greater understanding about what we are hoping to achieve at Wear Point 55 and the benefits this development will bring to the North East both economically and through local employment opportunities.
