A TECHNOLOGY firm says it is set for an encouraging period after a strong second half to the year.

Filtronic, based at NetPark, in Sedgefield, County Durham, said revenues hit £13.6m in the 12 months to May 31.

The company said the figures were helped by a better second half, with revenues of £9.1m double the £4.5m recorded in the same period in the previous year.

Bosses said it had benefited from new orders for antennas in its wireless division, adding its broadband operation, which works out of Sedgefield, is growing its presence with a new product that increases the amount of data phone networks can carry.

Filtronic earlier this year revealed it had secured multi-million pound antenna and e-band communication system deals.

The latter will be carried out at Sedgefield, where Filtronic employs about 65 people, and will help a US customer extend transmission of high-capacity telecoms data over a 12-mile range.

Rob Smith, chief executive, said: “The prospects for both antennas and e-band transceivers continue to be encouraging and the growing pipeline of enquiries represents a considerable opportunity.”

Filtronic has been based at NetPark after leaving the former RFMD microelectronics plant, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, when the US firm departed the North-East.
