SHOE retailer Charles Clinkard has opened a new £3m head office and warehouse .

Lottie Clinkard, 14, - representing the fourth generation of the family firm and former worker Bryan Wilkinson, officially opened the new building at Cannon Park, Middlesbrough.

Bryan, who worked for the retailer for 30 years, named the previous head office Eveline House at Preston Farm. This latest honour recognises Bryan’s long service with the company.

Key suppliers and business partners joined together to toast the new facility and enjoyed guided tours of the expansive new office and warehousing space.

With enough space to store up to 250,000 pairs of shoes, the warehouse, next to the Royal Mail Sorting Office, is providing the company with the extra capacity needed to meet its increasing online sales.

The official opening is the latest step in the company’s 92 year history. It was Charles’ grandparents who started the business in 1924. The family-owned footwear retailer now has 33 stores across the country and employs 552 people nationwide.
