A FIRE protection equipment maker is expanding into one of the world’s largest oil markets.

Advanced Industrial Solutions (AIS), which supplies fire-proof jackets and insulation for the offshore energy and maritime sectors, is moving into Canada.

Bosses say they have an agreement to export their goods, which provide up to three hours of defence against the spread of a hydrocarbon or jet fire, through the Crosbie Group.

Paul Stonebanks, AIS’ managing director, said Canada is the world’s fifth largest oil producing country, adding Crosbie, known for installing protective coatings and fire protection systems across Canada’s oil and gas industry, will provide the perfect partner.

He added the agreement has already yielded new orders.

He said: “This will help take our products into Canada for the very first time.

“The link is already resulting in several new orders, including one to supply insulation and metal products to an offshore oil platform in Newfoundland.

“We are also training staff at Crosbie in survey and installation skills to ensure we capitalise on the major interest, though manufacturing will remain in the UK.”

Lesley Galgay, Crosbie corporate development manager, added: “We are very proud to become an AIS agent.

“The company’s high-quality products and innovative materials means our customers can be assured they are getting the very best fire protection and insulation available on the market.”

AIS, based in North Shields, North Tyneside, also supplies equipment to combat noise, corrosion, weather and temperature extremes, while the wider business also runs a training division to teach thousands of offshore workers every year.
