AN architect has merged with a rival to maintain its growth.

ADG Architects, in Darlington, has combined with Blackwell Architectural Services, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

Under the changes, Jeff Blackwell, principal of Blackwell, becomes a partner of ADG, and will work closely with partners John Bell and Paul Kelly.

At the same time, architect Malcolm Cundick has joined as an associate from his practice, Alpha Plus: Architects, with Samantha Lowdon joining as business development manager.

ADG provides services for commercial, industrial and residential projects, and has carried out work for organisations including Aycliffe mask maker 3M, Darlington Borough Council and Volvo Trucks.

It also worked with Darlington marine engineer Subsea Innovation on its new headquarters in the town’s Faverdale area.

Mr Bell said: “The merger, and the recruitment of Malcolm and Samantha, marks the start of a controlled growth phase for us, which will provide extra architectural and administrative resources to support the work of the partners.”

Mr Blackwell added: “We all believe very strongly in providing the same level of service, dedication and attention to detail on all sizes of projects.

“I know we will work well together and build a more successful practice.”
