SINCE the Chamber was formed 200 years ago, it has been working with its members to open up the region to global trade.

One of its key objectives continues to be assisting companies to develop trade across the world and providing support to exporters remains one of the fundamental roles of NECC.

Our A-Z of export markets and our export greats that serve these markets tells the story of the World’s reliance on our great region. Currently, the value of North East exports stands at £12.4bn. Our region’s trade surplus is £3bn - the only region in the UK to boast this. We export 350,000 cars every year to 90 countries through Nissan and are leading the way in pharmaceuticals, with AkzoNobel and GlaxoSmithKline both having operations in the North-East.

We work with our partners and successful local exporters to share experiences, offer practical advice and support designed to get more North East goods and services into worldwide markets.

Earlier this month NECC and UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) North East urged businesses across the region to take part in a weeklong series of events focussing on exporting goods and services overseas. It was a success with businesses from all over the region exploring new ways of increasing their client base.

It was an excellent opportunity for businesses to take their first steps into exploring new markets and find out where the best export opportunities lie for them. We know from businesses that we have already worked with that exporting can lead to greater opportunities for innovation, development and can increase employment right here in the North East.

The Chamber has a wealth of experience and knowledge regarding the compliance and legislative issues. We have advice available on finance and billing, cultural considerations, support available from UKTI and others, alongside testimonials of companies that have already made great contracts and sales overseas.

Every day, in every country around the world, there is someone, somewhere who wants a UK product or service. From breakfast cereals in Turkey, construction and communication systems in Delhi, teaching solutions in Japan, cookware brands in South Korea and e-commerce platform opportunities in Qatar, there is a demand for UK products and people need to take advantage of this

The range of companies we help range from small, recently established firms, trying to win their first orders abroad right up to established multi-nationals, already trading abroad.
