THE search for seasonal staff to cope with the Christmas rush has started, with an announcement by retail giant Argos of 9,000 jobs.
Around 8,000 "customer helpers" will be recruited over the festive season as well as 1,000 drivers.
Initial contracts will be for three months, with the potential for some jobs to become permanent where vacancies exist.
Argos said it will offer recruits a minimum of 12 hours a week, and six hours for weekend staff.
Steve Carson, director of retail and customer operations at Argos, said: "We need extra support in our stores and we're looking for people who are customer focused, energetic and enthusiastic.
"For the first time, we are also seeking drivers to join our store teams and support local deliveries to customers."
