A FURNITURE maker is expanding after taking on another North-East site.

Godfrey Syrett now has a warehouse on Belmont Industrial Estate, near Durham City.

The company, which operates across the education and commercial sectors, says the 105,000sq ft base will provide extra storage and distribution space.

The site now means Godfrey Syrett has four units in the region, with its headquarters in Newcastle, a manufacturing operation in Langley Moor, near Durham City, and a distribution hub in Spennymoor, County Durham.

The company is expected to move into its warehouse early next year, once refurbishment work, overseen by Silverstone Building Consultancy, is finished.

The renovation will include demolition of internal walls and the creation of loading docks.

Neil Tweddle, Godfrey Syrett managing director, said: “This site is part of our long-term strategy to create a first-class distribution centre, and Silverstone have developed some innovative ideas.”

Mark Coulter, Silverstone associate director, added: “We have appointed Hellens as main contractor, who are now on site, and our role will be to ensure the project meets the client’s expectations.”

Founded in 1947, Godfrey Syrett works with a number of well-known companies and organisations.

It has provided furniture for Newcastle University, carried out a similar role for offices and break areas at Royal London Hospital, and supported The Really Useful Group, which helps bring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s work to life, with an office move.
