A HOUSEBUILDER has made a new senior appointment.

Barratt Developments says Steve Jones has joined its North-East division as technical director.

Mr Jones, based in the firm’s Newcastle office, was previously technical manager for Barratt Developments’ West Midlands division, where he looked after site project management.

In his new role, he will be responsible for managing the technical team on new sites, from land deals through to planning, design, production, sales and handover.

Mr Jones will also sit on the divisional board management team, which plays a role in the running of the business.

He said: “As demand for housing grows, it is a very exciting time to be involved in this facet of the industry.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with the team and contributing to building upon the already substantial successes for Barratt in the region.”

Last month, Barratt, which includes Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, revealed mortgage lenders’ battle to lure customers was helping property sales.

The company, founded by Sir Lawrie Barratt, revealed sales were 10.8 per cent higher at 16,447 for the year to June 30, with total forward sales up 29.6 per cent to 1.77bn.
