AN environmentally-friendly construction firm has created jobs after launching in the region.

Plastrex Limited, which imports, sells and develops sustainable products and systems, has moved into Middlesbrough’s Riverside Park Industrial Estate.

The business, overseen by founder Paul Cryer and co-director Dianne O’Donoghue, has been supported financially by Tees Valley Business Compass and partners including UK Steel Enterprise and Five Lamps.

It has created eight jobs, but says more could follow as it expands across the UK.

Plastrex is made from household plastic waste, and is used to replace wood across a number of areas, including decking, fencing, doors and sheds.

Mr Cryer said: “There is a gap in the market for a trade business that delivers commercially greener product solutions to construction and corporate business sectors.

“That belief has been affirmed by the backing of all the organisations, which have helped make my dream of opening this company a reality.”

Middlesbrough Mayor Dave Budd attended a ceremony to officially launch the firm, and said it was good news for Middlesbrough.

He added: “New business ventures are part of Middlesbrough’s lifeblood, and we’re delighted to be able to support enterprises like Plastrex.

“These are the sorts of businesses that are driving forward the town’s regeneration, helping to create much-needed jobs and boosting confidence in Middlesbrough’s future.”

The company is also sponsoring motor racing driver Simon Belcher, who has appeared in this year's British Touring Car Championship for the Handy Motorsport team.
