A SANDWICH maker says it is creating nearly 100 jobs and spending more than £3m on a new factory to maintain its growth.

On A Roll Sandwich Company, in Middlesbrough, is moving into a 35,000sq ft plant, on Riverside Park, after outgrowing its existing smaller base.

Founded in late 2007 by husband and wife team Helen and James Stoddart, the company now employs 130 staff and makes up to seven million sandwiches a year.

To complement its growing order book and subsequent factory expansion, the firm says it will create 94 new positions, from management roles down to production line jobs.

The business has been supported by the Tees Valley Business Investment Scheme and Middlesbrough Council’s economic development team, which helped it buy land from the local authority for the new £3.6m plant.

The building is due to be completed next month, with bosses already carrying out their recruitment drive.

Mr Stoddart said: “We are delighted with the way the business has grown since we set it up and are thrilled to secure this grant to help us with our expansion.

“This is an exciting time for us, and we thank Middlesbrough Council’s economic development team for its assistance and look forward to growing our relationship with them.

“We are fully committed to Middlesbrough and the surrounding area, and we make a point of dealing with local businesses and a number of smaller suppliers across Tees Valley where we can.”

Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s executive member for regeneration, said the company was an example of what can be achieved at Riverside Park.

He added: “Businesses like this are helping to energise the local economy by creating jobs and investing for growth.

“I’m delighted we have been able to help On A Roll continue to grow and I wish them every success for the future.”
