BUS services to Lingfield Point business park in Darlington will double thanks to Arriva and Darlington Borough Council.

With more than 2,500 people now working at the business park, the bus service is a key feature for the firms based there which include Amec Foster Wheeler, The Student Loans Company, Capita and Four Seasons Health Care.

Eddie Humphries, the park's estate manager, said: “This increase in service is a real match for our sustainability ethos and represents great value for employees and businesses.

“Although we have plenty of parking it is wonderful to see so many of our customers buying into travelling by public transport. This service can help make a real difference in the pocket as well as the environment.

“New bus stops will be appearing, as the new service will travel both ways through the site and new timetables will be available.”

Arriva North East, with financial support from Darlington Borough Council’s Local Motion project, introduced a bus service to the Business Park in 2012 on a trial basis.

The trial has been so successful that Arriva is now operating the service on a commercial basis and will add eight peak hour journeys into the timetable to cope with rising demand.

From May 17 the additional services to Lingfield will be operated as part of Arriva’s new Service 2, which will offer cross-town links from Branksome to Red Hall via the town centre up to every 12 minutes, with peak hour journeys operating via Lingfield Point.
