A FAMILY-OWNED firm has revealed a deal to sell energy from a £14m wind farm.
Banks Renewables has an agreement with Sweden’s Vattenfall Energy Trading over the Hook Moor wind farm.
The five-turbine scheme is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
Banks Renewables is part of the Banks Group, which has its head office in Meadowfield, near Durham City.
It previously appointed Hall Construction, based in Rushyford, near Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, to lead work on the development, in a move expected to support up to 30 jobs.
The company, which previously carried out groundworks on Hitachi Rail Europe’s £82m Aycliffe train building plant, will appoint and manage sub-contractors, lay access tracks, build a compound, and prepare the site for the turbines’ autumn arrival.
Phil Whyman, Banks Renewables’ commercial finance manager, said: “We are very pleased to secure this important agreement with Vattenfall for the energy that will be produced from our wind farm.”
The development will be based on land near the junction of the M1 and A1 outside Leeds.
