A CONSTRUCTION firm has been appointed to create a Teesside retail park.
Barr Construction is working as main contractor on Middlesbrough’s Gateway Middlehaven Retail Park.
The company secured the project from developer Terrace Hill, which is behind a £30m Darlington leisure scheme that will bring hundreds of jobs, a Vue Cinema, Premier Inn hotel, and various restaurants to the town.
Barr bosses say the Middlesbrough project will include a 124,000sq ft Sainsbury’s supermarket and petrol station, KFC and Costa coffee outlets, and a Marston’s pub.
The firm previously worked with Terrace Hill on a Sainsbury’s store in Sedgefield, County Durham.
Alec McCalley, Barr’s project manager, said: “We have a long track record of working on retail developments across the country and we look forward to being at the heart of a project so important to the North-East.
“We are also tremendously pleased to be continuing our partnership with Terrace Hill and delivering a facility which the client and local people can be proud of.”
Duncan McEwan, Terrace Hill’s director of development, added: “It’s great to have Barr with us on this project, and their involvement will stand the team in good stead to deliver a fantastic retail park.”
Advance work on the site has already started, with Gateway Middlehaven expected to open next summer.
