NORTH-EAST manufacturing firms can tap into a £4.5m offshore energy fund to create jobs and take on innovative projects.

The Grow:OffshoreWind service wants companies to help strengthen the UK’s supply chain.

The cash is made up of a £2.5m pot, supported by RenewableUK, which is directed towards small and medium-sized firms and their investment plans.

A further £2m will come from a partnership with the Knowledge Transfer Network and Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult, for companies of all sizes to accelerate innovative work.

Bosses say they want applications detailing how the funding will be used in the next six months to create jobs.

Dominic Brown, head of Grow:OffshoreWind, said: “We are excited about the potential of both calls to help us connect with more North-East companies and fast track their plans.

“The calls will enable firms to start investment plans by early November, ensuring they are in the best possible position to take advantage of opportunities out there.

“Up to £500,000 of grant funding is available for successful applicants, which can be used to support a wide variety of project costs.”

Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, October 15, with successful firms required to have substantively completed projects by April 30 2015.

The Grow:OffshoreWind programme is supported by the Government's flagship Regional Growth Fund job creation scheme.
