NORTH-EAST building services provider Shepherd Engineering Services (SES), in partnership with recruitment business NRL, is to host an M&E Trades Open Day, designed to match the region’s wealth of trained tradespeople with a variety of existing career opportunities.

The event is targeted at electricians, mates, plumbers and pipefitters who hold valid JIB, CSCS or Skills cards.

To be hosted at Fluid Bar, Gallowgate, Newcastle, from 1.OOpm to 5.00pm on Friday, September 19, the event is an opportunity for local trained tradespeople to meet the SES and NRL teams to discuss recruitment opportunities and suitable positions where NRL are supporting SES in the recruitment process for directly employed operatives.

The event comes hot on the heels of an array of high-profile North East contract wins for SES which represents a major infrastructure investment into the region.

The company was recently awarded the sought after M&E contract on the landmark state-of-the-art Hitachi rail vehicle manufacturing facility build project at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

The £82m Hitachi scheme, which represents the biggest investment into the area for more than 20 years, is set to have a momentous effect on the prosperity of the region.

Furthermore, in a dual win worth a combined £13m, SES has recently been appointed to provide full M&E services as part of the landmark £200m master plan to transform Newcastle’s historic city-centre Stephenson Quarter.

The company has also secured the contract to provide all the M&E services on the new Consett Academy and Leisure Centre in County Durham which forms part of a £40m investment to deliver unrivalled educational facilities.

These three projects have already seen SES invest heavily in local recruitment, including employing both time-served and experienced local engineers, as well as appointing four apprentices from across the North-East.

Steve Joyce, SES’ North East Regional Director, said: “We are immensely proud of Shepherd Engineering Services’ long history and close affinity with generations of the North-East’s talented tradespeople.

“As a result of the recent investment into infrastructure in the region, we are committed to ensuring this translates into local recruitment and, thereafter, a long-term skills legacy to reflect the area’s proud engineering heritage.

“We’re looking for the right people to join our North East team so if you’re a trained electrician, mate, plumber or pipefitter, we hope to see you on Friday.”

At the event, each applicant will receive a complimentary drink and buffet food will also be available.
