THE rate of UK inflation rose sharply in June, pushed up by consumer spending on clothing and footwear, food and non-alcoholic drinks, official figures show.
The Consumer Prices Index rose to 1.9 per cent, up from 1.5 per cent in May, according to the Office for National Statistics.
The rate is now close to the Bank of England's two per cent target.
It has remained below the target for the seven consecutive months.
