A FOOD maker is aiming to create new jobs and increase turnover after support from an independent management consultancy firm.

York Speciality Foods worked with Nicholson Consultancy, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, on ways to improve, create new products, and recruit a production manager.

The York-based company, and sister firm Village Green Preserves, make and supply jams, chutneys, sauces and preserves to Tesco, Asda and Sainsburys, small independent retailers, farm shops and the Women’s Institute.

It has an annual turnover of £1.5m and employs 14 staff, but bosses expect Nicholson's help to lift that to £1.8m and 17 roles respectively.

Managing director Paul Mercer said: “The programme will give us the ability to increase capacity, make savings and provide us with a more knowledgeable workforce.

“As a result, we will be able to commission new products and cope with increased demand.”

Andrew Nicholson, Nicholson Consultancy's managing director, added: “The programme we are delivering will help take them to the next level by ensuring the right people and processes are in place.”

Nicholson Consultancy previously operated in Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, but moved to Aycliffe to set up a hub for a network of associate consultants and trainers.

Founded in 2000, the company delivers training, consultancy, and support for manufacturing companies, including Aycliffe-based lawnmower maker Husqvarna and car chassis firm Gestamp Tallent.
