Oktoberfest, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, supports manufacturers and engineers
A NORTH-EAST engineering and manufacturing heartland is getting ready for the region's top industry showcase event.
The Oktoberfest Exhibition takes place at the Xcel Centre, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, and organisers are encouraging interested companies to register their interest after witnessing strong demand for places.
The event, now in its sixth year, has already attracted new participants and returning firms, and last year was a sell-out, with more than 1,100 visitors and more than 100 exhibition stands.
Since last year's exhibition, the area has seen itself at the centre of multi-million pound investments, including Hitachi's £82m deal to make high-speed trains at a new Aycliffe factory, which will create and secure hundreds of jobs.
The day-long networking and marketing opportunity, which takes place on Thursday, October 17, is billed as the region's premier event for engineers and manufacturers and is organised by the engineering forums in County Durham and other regional bodies.
Oliver Vogt, Oktoberfest spokesman, said: “There is no doubt that, over the past six years, the exhibition has grown in size.
“But it has also grown in stature and significance and those in the industries now tell us it is the most worthwhile of this type of event in the region. “Some come to Oktoberfest in preference to national events.”
Sponsored by Business Durham, Derwentside Homes, EEF and South West Durham Training, Teesside University, Husqvarna, Scott-Grant, Cleansing Service Group, FEG and Deritend and media partners The Manufacturer, the event is organised by County Durham's three engineering forums - North Durham, East Durham and South Durham Engineering and Manufacturing Forum.
