1879 Events Management, a subsidiary of Sunderland AFC, celebrates first anniversary
A North-East events company is celebrating its first year in business, which has seen it cater for more than 50,000 people.
Since 1879 Events Management, a subsidiary of Sunderland AFC, was launched it has provided catering and event management for a diverse range of events and functions around the region, including business awards dinners, concerts and private parties.
This has included the North-East’s largest LGBT festival, Newcastle Pride and the 2012 Sunderland Retail Awards in the city’s Bridges Shopping Centre.
The company, which also manages events at the Stadium of Light, was recently awarded its first local authority contract, to act as a ticketing agent and catering supplier for the Sound Waves 2013 concert organised by South Tyneside Council.
It has also been appointed to provide catering for all corporate and private events at the re-launched National Glass Centre, Sunderland, as well as to run the day to day operation of the venue’s Brasserie.
Gary Hutchinson, commercial director at Sunderland AFC, said: “1879 Events Management has been able to utilise SAFC’s experience of hosting events at the Stadium of Light to offer a comprehensive events management service for the whole of the North-East and beyond.
“In the past 12 months the firm has proven it can cater for a wide range of events, from fine-dining to festivals, as well as major catering contracts and we look forward to continuing this expansion in the coming months and years.”
