Engineering firm moves company across North-East (From The Northern Echo)

British Engines, in Newcastle, will transfer Rotary Power to South Shields

ONE of the North-East's oldest engineering firms is moving one of its companies across the region.

British Engines Ltd will relocate Rotary Power, which employs 111 people, from Newcastle to Simonside Industrial Estate, in South Shields.

The company makes hydraulic motors and pumps for the offshore, electrical, construction and engineering industries, and should move into its new 150,000sq ft site later this year.

Rotary Power is leaving Newcastle due to British Engines' continued growth, which should see the firm achieve £130m turnover this year.

British Engines has been based at St Peters, in Newcastle, since 1922, and employs more than 1,100 people across its five companies, which includes Bel Valves, who make high pressure valves for the oil and gas industry.

Alex Lamb, group chairman, said: “This project recognises that the company has grown in recent years and the St Peters site has become overcrowded and limiting in terms of the future.

“These plans will mean British Engines has significantly improved the infrastructure of both businesses and will provide scope for further development as well as helping secure jobs and potentially generating the need for further employment.”
