A GOVERNMENT-backed manufacturing service will be in the North-East next week to help businesses make the most of research and development (R&D) tax breaks.

The Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) will be advising businesses at the event on Tuesday February 12 alongside R&D experts from accountants and business advisers Clive Owen & Co LLP.

The Government’s R&D scheme allows businesses to gain tax relief on what they spend on research and development.

The event is being held at the base of plastic injection moulding firm, Nifco, in Eaglescliffe, near Stockton, where representatives of the company will give a talk on its successful growth.

Clive Owen & Co has entered into a business partnership with Teesside University to promote the R&D scheme further and use the university’s research, teaching and business expertise to encourage more North East companies to go for the breaks.

Nicola Bellerby, a tax partner based at Clive Owen & Co’s Durham office, said: “The North East is home to an important part of the nation’s manufacturing output yet few businesses realise how they can make greater tax savings via a claim for research and development.

“We’re delighted the MAS is coming to this event. It has a wealth of experience in the support of SME manufacturers and is actively engaged in developing new ideas, product innovation and process development.

“Their service can offer both practical support and matched funding towards effectively bringing products to market, ensuring businesses maximise the potential of these projects.”

The event will be held at 8.00am at Nifco, Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe, TS16 OPS. For more information or to reserve a place contact Margaret or Sarah at Clive Owen & Co LLP on 01325 349700 or email info@cliveowen.com
