Recycling firm helps shopping centre cut waste

A WASTE management company has been awarded a significant contract with one of the region’s largest shopping centres.
J&B Recycling, based in Thomlinson Road, Hartlepool, will be responsible for all waste generated by nearby Middleton Grange Shopping Centre and its 140 tenants.
Mark Penny, commercial manager at J&B Recycling, said: “Once we’d met the Middleton Grange team and built up that confidence and trust, we came up with a proposal which we felt best matched their needs as they were keen to be more environmentallyfriendly and reduce the amount of waste which ends up in landfill,” he added.
Middleton Grange is already noticing significant improvements to the way its waste is managed.
Centre manager Mark Rycraft said: “We were considering looking at our wastemanagement programme as many tonnes of waste are generated from the centre every year, so we wanted to make sure what we had in place was as efficient as it could be.
“We also have our own targets to reduce carbon emissions through the transportation of our waste, so working with a local company was very important to us.
“We’re already noticing the difference in costs, which have been reduced by about 20 per cent and that means tenants will notice the difference too.”
