BUSINESS experts in securing tax relief for research and development projects have joined forces with UK Steel Enterprise to encourage more companies to take advantage of a Government-backed scheme.

Clive Owen & Co LLP, which has offices in Darlington, Durham and York, has joined forces with UK Steel Enterprise Ltd (UKSE) to encourage manufacturers and businesses within the Tees Valley to take up the credits by attending a free event on Tuesday January 22.

UKSE, owned by Tata Steel, has been tasked with helping the economic regeneration of communities affected by changes in the steel industry.

The scheme allows businesses to gain tax relief on what they spend on research and development. Experts from Clive Owen will be on hand to help identify what kind of research and development could qualify for the relief and advise on what steps to take to secure the credits.

Clive Owen & Co LLP’s senior partner, Clive Owen, said:

“We’ve found many businesses are carrying out innovative work without even realising it.

“These tax breaks give businesses the opportunity to develop ideas into reality and to support their own growth and ultimately the economy of the North-East region.”

The event comes as Clive Owen & Co has entered into a business partnership with Teesside University to promote the R&D scheme further and use the university’s research, teaching and business expertise to encourage North East companies to go for the tax breaks.

The joint event will be held at UK Steel Enterprise Ltd, Hartlepool Innovation Centre, Venture Court, Queens Meadow Business Park, Hartlepool, TS25 5TG.
