A TEAM of lawyers have played a key role in a North-East scientific hub.

Bond Dickinson worked as a legal adviser on Science Central, in Newcastle.

The 24-acre mixed use development, on the former Scottish and Newcastle Brewery site, will create a base for scientific research, as well as leisure and retail outlets.

The project is being delivered by Newcastle Science City, a partnership between Newcastle University and Newcastle City Council.

Lawyers from Bond Dickinson, which has offices in Newcastle and Stockton, provided advice on the work.

Ian Atkinson, construction director and part of the advisory team, said: “This is a massive project for Newcastle and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.

“We were first involved when discussions between the university and the council were in their infancy, so it’s very exciting to see the project through to this stage.”

Fiona Standfield, Newcastle Science City director, added: “This will create a brand new quarter in the city, connecting the West End to the city centre.

“We appreciate the advice from Bond Dickinson’s team, which has brought the project forward in line with planned timescales.”

The development’s first building is scheduled to open in the autumn.
