Wholesale business expands
A FAMILY-OWNED wholesale
meat and poultry business has
become one of the largest in the
North-East following an acquisition.
Country Valley Foods (CVF) of
Hurworth Moor, near Darlington,
has bought the Billingham
wholesale division of Cocked Hat
Farm Foods.
The Darlington site will now
become a dedicated catering
butcher and meat processing facility
for locally-sourced beef,
lamb and pork, which it supplies
to hotels and restaurants.
The rest of the business will be
based at the larger Billingham
site, on Teesside, which has been
re-named Country Valley Wholesale
Foods.
Ruth Conner, marketing manager
for CVF, said: "This is a fantastic
opportunity to develop our
wholesale business, widen our
product range and cover a larger
geographical area.
"Additional space at our Darlington
site also enables us to
offer new and innovative products
to our catering customers."
CVF has more than 30 years expertise
in the food industry and
offers a specialist service to its
customers. In 2006, it received an
English Beef and Lamb Executive
(EBLEX) grant to launch its
Grand Reserve premium brand.
It involves a selected group of
farmers rearing beef and lamb to
the highest standards.
Last year, the company bought
the Tees Valley-based Newbould
chain of 12 butchers shops,
which also sell the Grand Reserve
brands.
Country Valley employs 120
people - including 19 in Billingham
- and expects a group
turnover of £15m this year.
