Lease of life for ‘eyesore’
ANEW lease of life has been breathed
into a dilapidated high-street shop
providing much-needed affordable
housing to the rental market in an East
Cleveland village.
Four two-bedroom and one three-bedroom
apartments have been created by Warsett
Developments in a project which has
regenerated part of Lingdale High Street.
All but one of the apartments has already
been let in the former mining community
thanks to the efforts of rentals division
Partners.
The block had once been a Co-operative
store, newsagents, fish shop and butchers
but had fallen into disrepair and was a
complete eyesore until acquired by Loftus
civil engineers and commercial builders
Warsett Developments.
"We had to be creative to maximise the
space to suit the rental demands of local
people," said Warsett managing director
Michael Moore.
"We worked with the planning department
to achieve this. We spent six months
restoring the building and have built some
stairs down into the basement to create a
third bedroom.
"From what was an eyesore we have created
five quality apartments in an area where
affordable rentals are needed.
"It is also nice for me that we have secured
the future of an historic building in this
village.
"Lingdale is just two miles from the moors
and there are also great views of the sea so
the apartments have appealed to people who
enjoy a bit of country and sea air in their
lungs."
