STOREYS:SSP have been holding seminars for property owners, bankers, accountants and solicitors about the changes in empty property rates.
In a market which has already been hit hard by the current economic climate and other business tax reforms, particularly the abolition of industrial buildings allowances and other changes to capital allowances, the full effect of the changes to business rates for empty property are only now being understood as rates bills for 2008-09 are being received.
Many people are facing surprises and discovering properties they were unaware they were owners of or now had to pay rates on.
storeys:ssp seminars, as well as giving details of these changes, have given information regarding ways in which empty property rates can possibly be avoided.
A copy of the handout produced for the seminar can be obtained from karen.johnston@ storeys-ssp.co.uk or elaine.ainley@ storeys-ssp.co.uk
