A COUNTY Durham-based property and surface mining firm has been recognised by its peers in industry awards.
Banks Mining, part of the Durham City based Banks Group, was named Surface Miner Of The Year at the annual IHS McCloskey Coal UK conference in London, an award which is voted for by surface mining firms across the UK, as well as by their customers and suppliers.
The award recognises a company's operations, from business achievements and operational efficiency through to environmental performance and effective site management.
Gavin Styles, executive director at Banks Mining which employs more than 200 people, said: "This is a fantastic achievement and one that reflects the commitment and dedication of every member of the team.
"The on and off-site jobs that our surface mines support and the money that they bring into their respective local economies make a real difference to the areas in which we work, as do the associated benefits funds that offer substantial support to local community and environmental projects."
