Building inspection firm Aedis continues impressive growth

A FAST growing firm providing building surveyor and inspection services expects to take on more staff as it continues its expansion around the country.

Just three-and-a-half years after its launch North Yorkshire based Aedis has seen demand for its services double for a second year running.

It comes as the firm, headquartered at Aske near Richmond, plans to expand from 11 to 14 UK offices this year.

Its success has seen it take on around seven staff in the past 12 months, giving it a workforce of around 22, and it plans to increase employee numbers by a similar amount this year.

Having opened for business in June 2008 with offices in Newcastle, and Middlesbrough, in addition to Aske, in the last year it has opened

in Leeds, Cardiff and, within the past few weeks, Bolton.

Company director Joe Ayre, who set up the business three years ago with fellow directors Alan Barraclough and Steven Spence, who between them have more than 60 years experience in building inspection and control, said: "We always knew that there was a great opportunity for our inspection services.

"Traditionally most local authorities have delivered building inspection but private sector accredited companies such as ourselves are ensuring there is now a better choice for all.

"Last year's results are superb and further proof that we keep delivering the services our clients need. We have a growing team in place at Aske supporting what is now a nationwide network of Aedis offices."

Despite the construction industry as a whole suffering in the downturn the firm said it was doing well because it could work across a number of sectors.

It has seen business with domestic clients continue to grow rapidly and is still picking up commercial and industrial work, with its customers including Hilton Hotels and sandwich chain Subway.

"We know times are tough for many in the construction industry but there is still lots happening out there. The current market actually works to our strengths," Mr Ayre said.

Although the majority of its work remains in building control and building inspection services the firm is presently looking to expand further into environmental and energy assessment work.
