Web designers launch mobile recycling business

AN expanding web design business has launched a mobile phone recycling pricecomparison site that could help customers earn up to £180 for their old handsets.

It is estimated that about 68 per cent of mobile phone users have at least one old phone lying around, with a staggering 85 million UK mobile phones being abandoned to landfill sites, instead of being traded in for cash.

Darlington business Edward Robertson Web Design aims to capitalise on this by offering consumer deals on old phones from 23 leading mobile phone recycling companies via its website, Sellmyoldmobilephone.co.uk Prices are updated daily and, unlike other price comparison sites, sellmyold mobilephone.co.uk also features a tracking device, allowing users to monitor how much they would have received if they had traded in their phone in the past few weeks.

The recycled phones are donated to charities with many ending up in India, Africa and China.

This is the second website launched by Edward Robertson, which employs 12 staff in Darlington and Newcastle, and whose main business is designing, building and optimising websites for clients.

Last year, it launched an online shopping directory shopsafe.co.uk, providing customers with a database of more than 4,000 retailers.
