Companies benefit from web presence

A COMPANY designing websites for small businesses has announced plans to take on more staff after securing 16,000 customers.

About 1.5 million businesses in the UK do not have a website, but a recent report by the Boston Consulting Group showed that small and medium enterprises actively using the internet reported overall sales growth more than four times greater than that of less active companies.

After starting with a workforce of four in 2003, Webworks Internet now employs 40 people at its Darlington head office, and is set to recruit about 16 staff in the new year to help the firm cope with demand.

Sales manager Tim Moor said: “Any business that neglects online sales risks losing out to its competitors.

“Increasingly, websites are the first port of call for customers interested in checking out prices and services, so it’s vital you have a professionallooking site that shows off your business to best effect.

“We are in a fortunate position here in the North-East by having a very strong base of people who have experience of working in call centres. The recession has, of course, hit several businesses, which makes it particularly pleasing to be able to offer high-quality jobs to join our team.”

Webworks is regarded as one of the leading web design companies in the UK, growing from £50,000 turnover in its first year to a multi-million-pound business that is reporting 20 per cent growth on last year.

Webworks specialises in website design, web hosting, email, search engine submission and other internet services.

It can also provide professional voiceovers and flash animation to make websites stand out. Customers are sent a pack to fill in and, once the company receives it back, it aims to complete the website within ten working days.

■ Internet experts have been in the region to warn small businesses they are losing lucrative contracts if they fail to set up their own website.

Speakers from Google and Enterprise UK told delegates at the Getting British Business Online (GBBO) event in Gateshead that GBBO has already helped 3,601 businesses in the North-East to design and launch a website with their own .co.uk address. For more information, visit gbbo.co.uk

This is surely a no brainer, it is the small businesses who will gain the most by a web presence. They could be contacted from anywhere in the world, and might cut out the costs of middle-men.
Everybody should have a website!
There are companies who will help them run all their online activities, and there are places to get websites and hosting at very afordable costs.
try http://www.eqtr.com/ for example, they will run everything for you, from the design to the management.
