A FAMILY-RUN company offering couples an unusual choice of transport for their wedding day is enjoying a boom in business.
Lovedubcars, founded by husband and wife James and Rachel Calvert, gets brides and bridegrooms to the church on time in their fleet of classic Volkswagen vehicles, from Beetles to campervans.
The firm, based in Middleton St George, near Darlington, only started last September and already has 70 bookings for this year with clients across County Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and into Northumberland.
Vehicles include a 1965 split-screen campervan, named Chaz; a 1969 bay window camper called Tilly; a 1975 Beetle cabriolet named Mr Bennett and its modern equivalent, Alice.
Another campervan, dubbed Julio, is to join the fleet shortly.
The firm was advised on getting the business started by BiB Insurance, in Darlington.
Mrs Calvert, whose day job is as a lung specialist nurse, said: “We did our first wedding last September and the demand since then has just been incredible.
“Things have really taken off and we’re so grateful for the expertise that BiB has offered us as a relatively new business. We often need drivers adding to the insurance at just a few hours’ notice, but it’s never been a problem.”
