Special training to protect public

A RURAL technology company has won a contract with the agency charged with protecting the public from the swine flu pandemic.

The Honeyman Group is to deliver specialist training to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) which support its production of vaccines.

This agreement renews the relationship with Barnard Castle-based Honeyman and the HPA, which has involved training being given to more than 100 agency professionals.

Throughout the year, Honeyman will send a team of specialist trainers to the HPA’s Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response, in Wiltshire, to work with its technicians.

The centre plays a vital role in preparing for and co-ordinating responses to possible healthcare emergencies and also carries out research into infectious diseases.

Trevor Honeyman, chairman of The Honeyman Group, said: “We are very proud to be able to provide these training packages to such an important organisation, which plays such a vital role in the protection of our entire population.”

Nick Batty, quality and compliance training manager at the HPA, said: “We have a number of staff who require this training, so it is important we can engage a company that provides expert onsite programmes, which fit into our work cycle.”
