A TRAINING charity for the oil, gas and process sectors has branched out to include the National Health Service.
The Middlesbrough-based TTE Technical Training Group was asked by the Northern and Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre, to train two apprentices.
The centre, which is based at the University Hospital of North Tees wanted the apprentices trained to NVQ level 2 and the five key skills standards prior to starting their NVQ level 3 in engineering with the Assessment Centre.
Joshua Thompson, 18, who did an electronic training programme, and Martin Tate, 20, whose trade discipline is mechanical engineering, have both recently started work at the Stockton hospital following nine months with TTE.
Joshua, from Stockton, is working as a medical engineer and Martin, of Middlesbrough, as a mechanical fitter.
Keith Hunter, TTE managing director, said: “TTE is well-known for training the workers of tomorrow for the oil and gas, process, manufacturing and engineering sectors.
However, the skills learnt on our apprenticeship programmes are transferrable.
This is demonstrated by TTE being asked to do training for the Northern and Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre.”
Eileen Bayles, the regional training and development manager, for the Northern and Yorkshire NHS Assessment Centre, said: “Ensuring that our employees are furnished with the skills enabling them to do a top-class job is an integral part of the hospital’s operation.”
Joshua’s work ethic was recently rewarded when he was named TTE student of the term.
