Helping to cut energy costs

SAVINGS of more than £3.7m have been made by North-East companies over the past two years through a pioneering green energy service.

Mas-Nepa Energy has helped 240 companies save millions by offering advice on how to eliminate energy waste from manufacturing processes and guidance on energy costs and bills.

The team has also helped cut the amount of potentially harmful carbon dioxide emissions being released into the environment by almost 25,800 tonnes.

Successes include helping Cottam Brush, of South Tyneside, save 30 per cent on energy costs and catalysts firm Johnson Matthey, of Billingham, near Stockton, save 16 per cent on fuel bills.

Mas-Nepa Energy, of Sunderland, began life as the Energy Resource Efficiency programme started by regional development agency One NorthEast in 2007.

It is now managed by private sector partners PA Consulting.
