Sculpture brought to life with glass faces

A GLASS company has helped bring a business park sculpture to life.

Creative Glass, on the North Tees Industrial Estate, near Portrack Lane, Stockton, provided the glass faces for The Delegation.

It is a sculpture of seven towering figures at Rainton Bridge South Business Park, off the A690, near Houghtonle- Spring, County Durham.

The Delegation was designed by Swedish artist Tord Kjellstrom.

It is made up of seven figures – the highest standing 7.9metre tall – capped with glass light boxes, which Creative Glass manufactured using techniques including water jet cutting, polishing and UV glue.

Tony Campbell, managing director of Creative Glass, said: “The Delegation has been a fantastic project to be involved in.

“Tord is a top artist and designer so we were delighted to work with him to produce something striking and unique for the business park.

“The sculpture really comes into its own at night, when the light boxes illuminate the eyes on the faces.”

Sunderland City Council commissioned the work after a competition involving members of the Cohesion Glassmakers Network, of which Creative Glass and Mr Kjlellstrom are both members.

Creative Glass’ James Wiley, 21, Richard Wiley, 24, and Andrew Bulmer 25, all from Stockton, contributed to the production process using skills gained through glass processing training with the North-East Chamber of Commerce.
