STRONG demand in the construction sector has helped improve a portable building firm’s financial performance.

Mobile Mini says companies’ clamour for on-site accommodation bolstered its figures in the first half of the year.

The company saw revenue rise by nearly 15 per cent to £33m in the opening six months of 2017.

Bosses say the business, which runs its UK endeavours from Preston Farm Business Park, on the outskirts of Stockton, has benefited from enduring demand across its 16-strong branch network.

Chris Morgan, managing director at the firm, said it was well placed to continue its growth trajectory.

He said: “We saw strong growth in the first half of the year, with continued strong demand from the construction industry.

“We’re determined to maintain our market-leading position by continuing to invest in our people and products, so we exceed our customers’ expectations and continue to build strong long-term relationships with them.”

The business, which has branches in Middlesbrough and Sunderland, also now employs more than 400 staff after recruiting in excess of 40 people in the past year.

Its latest annual results, revealed by The Northern Echo in February, showed income hit £59.8m in 2016, which was 3.8 per cent higher on the previous year.

Late last year, Mobile Mini revealed it had taken on Gateshead’s Containers 2000 to continue its expansion and finalised an agreement for Ipswich’s Mr Box, which Mr Morgan says has had an effect.

Highlighting how the moves have strengthened Mobile Mini’s existing container hire and sales business, he also said they have helped extend the company’s presence in the retail, manufacturing and education markets.

Mobile Mini’s global operations are based in Arizona.
