A CAR parts maker is pushing ahead with job creation plans in a £250,000 expansion.

ElringKlinger (GB) wants staff after bolstering its tool room with new machinery.

The move comes after bosses announced their intention to take on around 30 staff and modernise a tool store and materials storage facilities.

It also follows confirmation that the company, based at Redcar, has started work on its largest-ever project in a £12m-a-year deal, which is seeing it make heat shield and gasket components for Jaguar Land Rover.

Managing director Ian Malcolm, who previously revealed a five-year plan to double the size of the company, said the tool room changes will allow the business to provide a full in-house repair operation.

He also said the firm, which employs more than 300 workers, is expected to spend another £250,000 to increase its scope of work and reduce the need for subcontractors.

Mr Malcolm said: “We have invested strongly in new equipment over the last five years and the expansion of the tool room facilities is further evidence.

“The North-East is home to a highly-skilled employee base and we are looking for experienced time-served tool makers to join our team.

“However, our employees are also given the relevant training so we can continue to meet the demands of the automotive industry.”

The business saw product sales total £21m in 2016, and its Jaguar Land Rover work includes parts for use in engine bay and vehicle assembly applications for six differing power units.

The Northern Echo also previously revealed how the firm had secured a £19.5m deal to supply Ford with complex gaskets, beating US and European rivals in the process.
