OPPORTUNITIES to capitalise on the growth of the rail sector are to be outlined at this year’s Durham Oktoberfest.

A number of North-East companies in the rail industry supply chain have won business since the arrival of Hitachi Rail Europe in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

In recognition of that success, rail will be a key theme of the annual networking expo in the hope of encouraging other regional firms to pursue opportunities.

Expo organiser County Durham Engineering and Manufacturing Network (CDEMN) has teamed up with the Rail Alliance to highlight what support is available to benefit from the sector.

Ben Gilhespy, operations director at CDEMN, said: “I think many of them genuinely think that because of the Hitachi effect, these opportunities are only available for the bigger firms but that isn’t the case.

“Businesses of all sizes could be pitching for work, they just need to know where to start.”

The Rail Alliance workshop is one of a number of themed sessions at Durham Oktoberfest, held at the Xcel Centre, in Newton Aycliffe, on Thursday, October 19.
