A COUNTY Durham roofing and cladding company has hailed its workforce after revealing record turnover.

CA Group says the “dedication and hard work” of its near 220-strong team, allied to retailers’ demand for warehouses, helped drive forward annual finances.

According to latest results, released today (Friday, June 16), turnover in CA Group (Holdings) Limited stood at £76.2m in the year to September 30.

The number was nearly a third up on the previous 12 month total of £59.7m.

Bosses added gross profit was also up, from £14.2m to £18.4m, with operating profit rising to £7.5m.

It meant profit for the year increased from £4.3m to £5.9m.

Des Webster said the business, which previously worked on Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club's Amex Stadium, had benefited from healthy orders across the storage sector, with companies such as online retailer Amazon and budget supermarket Lidl calling on its services.

The firm, based in Evenwood, near Bishop Auckland, has also supported construction of the £140m Rushden Lakes retail and leisure complex in Northamptonshire.

Mr Webster said: “Our record turnover this financial year is testament to the dedication and hard work of our employees.

“That has been combined with a buoyant logistics sector, driving an increased demand for warehouse facilities for clients including Amazon, Hermes and Lidl.”

Earlier this month, The Northern Echo reported how the company had been “overwhelmed” by demand after launching a recruitment drive.

The business is looking to add 20 workers to its rota in a bid to keep up with demand and has already filled a number of shopfloor roles and positions across ordering and buying departments.

However, Neil Alderson, managing director of CA Building Products, which is the company’s principal manufacturing division, said it still wants more staff to carry out IT, design and data analysis work, as well as an engineering graduate or undergraduate.

He said: “We are keen to get the message out there to as many people as possible that might have the skills we need.

“We are an innovative business with an enthusiastic workforce at the heart of its success.

“We are committed to developing our employees, many of whom have been with the business for more than ten years, by offering the relevant training and support.”

Referring to itself as one of the UK’s leading metal roofing and cladding systems manufacturers and contractors, CA Group was founded in the 1980s.

The company’s order book includes work for Sainsbury’s, Vantec and Sports Direct, with BBC Media City, in Salford, just one of its stellar contracts.

Its divisions include CA Roofing Services and CA Specialist Cladding Systems, while it also runs CA Refurbishment Projects, which oversees maintenance programmes, roof conversions and building cladding replacement.
