AN engineering services business has secured a contract to help deliver a £14m hospital development.

NG Bailey has been appointed principal contractor by North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust to oversee the building of a new energy centre.

Bosses say the hub, at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, will include emergency generators, a boiler plant, oil fuel storage and distribution space and a water storage area.

They added NG Bailey, which runs an office on the outskirts of Durham City, has developed a detailed maintenance plan and a switchover programme to move supplies from the ageing network to the new sub-stations.

The business will also be responsible for delivering building works, which will include the creation of two reinforced concrete belowground walkways to link the energy centre to the hospital.

The base is expected to be operational next year, with construction work due to start this month.

Jon Crank, pre-contract manager in NG Bailey’s engineering division, said: “The completion of the upgrade will be a milestone in the regeneration of the hospital.

“The new energy centre will be more reliable, more energy efficient and more environmentally- friendly, and will be operational in 2018.”

The project will follow an existing scheme being delivered by NG Bailey, which includes an electrical infrastructure upgrade, and Steven Taylor, head of design and development at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, said the company has more than proven its ability.

He added: “NG Bailey has been a highly competent professional contractor.”
