A GAMING accessories firm is leaving a business park, The Northern Echo can reveal.

Turtle Beach, which designs headsets for console makers including Sony and Nintendo, is moving from Darlington’s Lingfield Point.

A source told the Echo that the US-headquartered company is understood to be consolidating operations in Rotterdam, though the business has yet to reply to a request for further information.

Its address was last night still advertised as being the County Durham office hub, with its website listing Darlington as one of its locations.

But officials at Lingfield Point have confirmed the business is making operational changes.

However, they added they expect to welcome fresh arrivals to cover its loss and complement existing tenants, which include engineer Amec Foster Wheeler, outsourcing firm Capita, the Student Loans Company and the NHS.

A spokeswoman said: “Turtle Beach is moving on.

“But demand for warehousing space in the North-East is buoyant and we expect to be in a position to make some positive announcements very soon.”

Turtle Beach arrived in Darlington in 2013 when it bought distributor Lygo International.

Under the terms of that agreement, Lygo adopted Turtle Beach’s name and bosses revealed plans to create at least 50 jobs after a £10m investment.

The deal came after Lygo was appointed Turtle Beach’s European distribution arm, sending products to high street retailers such as Argos and Game.

Lingfield Point is home to a number of businesses, including outsourcing company Capita, which employs hundreds of workers at the base.

Earlier this year, the firm signed a long-term lease to stay in Darlington for at least the next eight years to continue delivering pension administration and consultancy work.

Companies including the Dickinson Media marketing agency and Para-Sols, which supports financial advisers and planners, also previously confirmed their presence at Lingfield Point.
