A BUSINESS services provider says it will bring jobs to the North-East after backing a company soon to be spearheaded by a regional investment boss.

BE Group has become a major investor in Synoptica, which officials say will deliver new posts.

The company, based in Seaham, east Durham, is known for its support work, having previously secured a contract to administer a Government research programme and boost small businesses across the UK.

Bosses say its tie-up with Synoptica, which has lured Business Durham managing director Dr Simon Goon to become its new chief operating officer, will give customers a greater edge in the marketplace.

They added that by investing in Synoptica, which uses software to provide a greater understanding of businesses and sectors, BE Group will be able to recruit a number of workers for its North-East operations.

Nicki Clark, BE Group chief executive, said: “This represents a step change in the group’s ability to provide our customers with uniquely targeted information that gives them a formidable competitive advantage.

“It’s also fantastic to be bringing some really special jobs to the North-East.”

Stephen Mooney, managing director of Synoptica, which has bases in London, said BE Group’s support will be invaluable, while he also hinted at the impact Sunderland University graduate Dr Goon will have on the business.

He added: “We’re delighted BE Group have joined us as major investors.

“Their portfolio, business audience and relationships provide us with unrivalled insight and access to business across the UK.

“Simon Goon joins us with a well-deserved reputation in the fields of technology and science, underlining the scale of our ambition.

“We expect to be making another equally exciting investment announcement shortly; watch this space”.

Dr Goon is expected to take up his role with Synoptica later this year.

After taking over at Business Durham from Stewart Watkins in 2013, he has continued the organisation’s endeavours to bring jobs and investment to the region, which have included a commitment to deliver the Explorer development at NetPark, in Sedgefield, County Durham.

The work will house facilities such as laboratories, clean room space and offices for smaller firms to scale up work.

Praising the “brilliant team” at Business Durham, which is Durham County Council’s business division, Dr Goon said: “I look forward to an exciting new chapter in my career, working in a sector at the cutting-edge of economic advancement.”
