A PORTABLE building firm is planning a further £1m investment months after announcing record results.

Mobile Mini is looking to increase the size of its mobile welfare fleet by half by the summer.

The Groundhog GP360 Fusion units, which are purpose built for construction sites without water or electricity connections, were first launched last year and the firm has seen increased demand for them ever since.

The Stockton-based firm, which also has branches in Middlesbrough and Sunderland, revealed in February its annual income had hit £59.8m in 2016, which was 3.8 per cent higher on the previous year.

Bosses said a £7.9m drive to take the company’s fleet of containers, offices, canteens and portable toilets to nearly 40,000 was pivotal in the rise, adding a separate £3.7m decision to upgrade and add wagons to its operations was equally important.

Chris Morgan, managing director at Mobile Mini, said: "We are delighted to have a growing fleet of the most advanced mobile welfare unit on offer in the UK, which will enhance our growth both here in the North East and across the UK.

"It was great to see how the units were received by our customers when we first added them to our fleet and we are sure this will continue to be the case, as Genquip Groundhog is still recognised as the market leader in mobile welfare units."

The firm runs its UK endeavours from Preston Farm Business Park, on the outskirts of Stockton, and previously said it was targeting further work in the retail, hospitality and education sectors.
