A RECRUITMENT and training business has paved the way for new jobs after confirming an expansion.

Learning Curve Group has agreed terms to operate a new base out of DurhamGate, near Spennymoor.

Bosses say the 17,000sq ft site forms part of a £1m investment to create capacity for its existing 270-strong workforce and space for up to 60 new posts.

They added building work could start later this year, subject to planning approval, with the company expected to move from its existing Bishop Auckland home early next year.

Learning Curve works with thousands of learners and businesses every year and has skills centres across the country, with its services including apprenticeships, distance learning qualifications and a recruitment business.

Brenda McLeish, Learning Curve Group’s chief executive, said the business was keen to maintain its momentum, having just received the Investors in People Gold standard.

She said: “As we continue to grow, we need to move to fulfil our ambitious plans.

“Having been awarded the Investors award for our approach to staff development, we will be taking this further by investing around £1m in our new premises and we intend to fill the additional space very quickly.”

The business agreed its move with Arlington Real Estate, which is working with Carillion to deliver DurhamGate.

Allan Cook, of Arlington Real Estate, said: “We are delighted to welcome Learning Curve.

“We have been working with them over the last couple of years to develop an accommodation solution that meets their needs going forward.”

Councillor Neil Foster, portfolio holder for economic regeneration at Durham County Council, added: “It is brilliant that a firm so engaged in raising the potential of people is committed to the area.”
